Oil/Water Separators
Main
Equipment Directory
Follow this link for information on Hydro-Flo's
"Oil Water Separator Design

for
information on the accurate design and sizing of
Oil Water
Separators and Separation Systems
Oil/water
separators are designed to separate free and dispersed oils and
greases (as well as gross quantities of suspended solids) from
wastewater or process streams, making it possible for sensitive downstream
equipment to perform as designed. A properly designed
oil/water
separator will reduce your overall operating costs and improve
overall system maintainability.

DynaPac™
"Enhanced Gravity" type Oil/Water Separator
Model DP-2 handles up to
10 GPM of continuous flow
(based on application)
The
DynaPac™ Model DP-2
"coalescing" type oil / water separator is suitable for many
different applications and is available in many different
configurations. Originally designed for use in the "LUST"
remediation market, this separator has proven itself over and over
again as a reliable, highly efficient device.
This
unit is available in a flat bottom configuration or with a hopper
bottom for the accumulation and removal of settleable solids.
A number of different pump packages are available for the transfer
of the separators influent, effluent, sludge or oil.
All
DynaPac™
separators come pre-assembled, factory tested and ready to
install. They are simple to operate and maintain.
Everything you could want in an industrial duty OWS built to
take all the abuse you can throw at it and still keep doing its job
day in and day out.

To meet these goals, Hydro-Flo manufactures three basic types of oil water
separators:
"API" type,
"Enhanced Gravity" type (often referred to as a "coalescing"
oil/water separator) and
"Pressure Rated"
oil/water separators.
All of these basic separator types are available in numerous models
and configurations to meet your specific separation needs.
Oil/water separators are usually the first stage of any wastewater
treatment system. However, in some cases, an oil water separator
can be used as effective "end of pipe" treatment equipment.
|
API type
Oil Water Separators
The most severe applications are typically
handled by an API oil/water separator. Designed around API published studies,
they are ideal for treating waste-streams with viscous oils, greases
and high total suspended solids loadings.
|
Enhanced
Gravity
Oil Water Separators
The most efficient separator is the enhanced
gravity oil/water separator. The separation process is
"enhanced" with the installation of several media styles, all of
which greatly increase the separator's overall projected surface
area. Many manufacturers refer to this as a "Coalescing"
oil/water separator.
|
Pressure
Rated
Oil Water Separators
Hydro-Flo's pressure rated separators
are designed for sophisticated process and wastewater applications.
these heavy duty separators can be configured to separate a gas from
a myriad of immiscible liquids and suspended solids or any
immiscible liquids and solids of different specific gravity.
They are ideally suited for pressurized process loops where the
installation of a non-pressurized gravity system would be
impractical. |
Replacement Media Packs
Hydro-Flo manufactures a broad line of media packs for oil water
separators, inclined plate - parallel plate - lamella type
clarifiers, biological systems, etc... We can supply packs for
both stand alone fabricated devices or large in ground systems.
Sized
to handle any flow rate and designed to handle even the highest
product loading ratios. Hydro-Flo media packs are designed and
built to deliver state-of-the-art results and the longest service
life achievable.
A wide variety of materials of construction
are available to meet even the most demanding applications. |

SEPARATOR FOULING ISSUES AT A SUPERFUND SITE
"We have
used oil/water separators by other suppliers and were never
really happy with the results. They were often undersized
and typically difficult to maintain.
Your
application engineers were a great help in solving our iron
bacteria (moose) issues. Your MaxiSep oil water separator
has been in operation at our site for over a year and is
operating flawlessly without any of the fouling and constant
maintenance required of the other separators we had installed at
the site. Thanks for all your help."

There
are many misconceptions in the market place concerning the proper
design and application of "oil/water
separators". Often, oil/water separators are the most
misunderstood "basic" device available in the market today.
Many companies profess to design their separators around API pub 421
"Design and Operation of Oil/Water Separators". In fact, I
think you would be hard pressed to find a supplier who does not
claim to design their separators around API 421.
Unfortunately, most of these companies misunderstand much of the
data and misinterpret many of the concepts and theories
presented in this publication.
We take every aspect of the design of our separators very seriously.
We analyze cross sectional velocities (actual, not nominal), length
to height to width ratios (for proper overall flow distribution),
laminar flow conditions and Reynolds calculations (for quiescent flow
distribution), inlet flow distribution, effluent flow distribution,
and every other criteria throughout the entire separator. Most
other suppliers only solve for projected surface area, without
consideration to any of the other design parameters.
Hydro-Flo Oil Water Separators
are designed to perform exactly as specified, day in and day out,
giving you the consistent high quality results your process
deserves. |
